Review: DoubleTree by Hilton, Sheffield City

A Room with a View: Brammall Lane, Sheffield United

This review covers a one night stay at the Hilton Doubletree Sheffield City in June 2026. The room was priced at £61 per night, equivalent points price for a standard room appears to be around 25,000 Hilton Honors points. I arrived in Sheffield by train and the hotel was a short (10-15 minute) walk – although I added on a quick wander around the perimeter of the Brammall Lane stadium on arrival.

The Hotel

DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City is a modern four star hotel located at the iconic Bramall Lane stadium, home of Sheffield United Football Club, just a short walk from Sheffield city centre. The hotel offers 155 contemporary guest rooms, an on site restaurant and bar (do deli), a fitness centre, meeting and event spaces for up to 250 delegates, and easy access to attractions such as the Crucible Theatre, Kelham Island, and the Peak District, making it a good choice for both business and leisure travellers.

The Room

I stayed in a standard King Guest Room, I selected the room location via the Hilton App in a bid to get a good view across Brammall Lane Stadium (which worked successfully). I chose room 723, which I think is likely amongst the best choices for a stadium view, being on the top floor and at the very end of the building. As you can see from the headline image, it was effectively directly above the roof of the stand. If choosing on the App and looking to get a stadium view look for rooms on a high floor, on the right hand side of the floor plan.

I did also have a slightly odd experience with room allocation. Two days before travelling the Hilton App notified me that I’d been upgraded to a King Deluxe Room. On the day of travel I then got another upgrade notification, saying ‘Good News! You’ve been upgraded!’ only to find it was actually a downgrade back to a standard room. When I enquired about this at check I was told this shouldn’t have appeared as an upgrade and that no King Deluxe rooms were available. I was then offered free parking – however I hadn’t driven – before being given an extra complimentary drink voucher. I was also given another voucher as a Gold member benefit, plus the usual complimentary breakfast.

The room was a decent size and included a small seating area, a work desk and a large TV. The bathroom included a shower, with wall mounted Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. The room was clean and well presented and I had a comfortable – and quiet – night’s sleep.

Food and Drink

I made use of the do deli in the evening. There is the option to eat in the bar or restaurant area and I opted for the bar – setting up near a TV screen to watch the evening’s world cup game. This was a Sunday evening and both the bar and restaurant were exceptionally quiet. The bar is a relatively large space and at times there were only 3 or 4 other guests around.

As above, I had two free drinks vouchers, which could be used for bottled beers, a glass of house wine or soft drinks. I also had a smoked salmon salad (£18) and an apple crumble. The food was actually pretty good, and being so quiet, service was quick and very friendly.

The following day I returned for breakfast, which was again relatively quiet. The hotel provides a relatively standard breakfast buffet with hot and cold items. Again, my experience of the food and service was good.

Conclusion

Overall, I had an enjoyable stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City. While I was initially disappointed to receive a complimentary downgrade, the hotel handled the rest of my stay well and having a view of Brammall Lane was great. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet, the food exceeded expectations, and the service from the team was consistently warm and efficient. Its location at Bramall Lane is within easy walking distance of Sheffield city centre and offers something a little different for football fans.
