Be aware, TrainPal is great for pricing and convenience – for example, I recently bought a Friends and Family Railcard for 30% cheaper than buying direct – however their Temu style ‘spin the wheel’ marketing can be very unclear and irritating! If you’re happy to just skip/close and ignore these notifications, then I think it’s worth a look.

How to get £3 credit or £5 Railcard discount with TrainPal
To get the £5 railcard discount or £3 credit with TrainPal (which, as above, is 1 x £2 and 1 x £1 off train tickets):
- Click the referral link – this will take you to the TrainPal landing page. The credit amount which shows here seems to vary and is often higher than £3 – it’s possible you might get more than £3, however the offer (see screenshot below) clearly advertises it as £3.
- Enter your email and download the App – the TrailPal landing page has an enter email box and will take you through to the App download
- Check the Promo code section of the App – you should see the referral bonuses here. It’s likely you’ll also have a range of other weird and wonderful offers!
- Ignore the spin the wheel – The spin the wheel games will take ages to click through and then leave you £1 – or even pennies – short of the bonus, asking you to purchase and/or share to get a large cashback bonus (which it turns out is actually very difficult to reach).
What is TrainPal?
I first used TrainPal for the Friends and Family Railcard, because it offered by far the best price. Your Railcard lives within the TrainPal App (see screenshot of my own railcard tab below), however it is valid on rail tickets wherever you buy them – you do need to buy a TrainPal ticket to activate it though. The other thing to note is that the Railcard only opens in the TrainPal App it was bought on, so whilst you can name two adults on a Friends and Family Railcard, they can’t both have the card stored on their own phone/App.
