A Hilton Gold Status Clean Sweep

I recently stayed at Hilton Canary Wharf, as part of a weekend trip to London to take my daughter to a concert at the O2 (in the Virgin Red Room – see my previous review). As this review highlights, we got pretty much a clean sweep of Hilton Status Gold benefits at this hotel! Alongside the guaranteed benefits (free breakfast, 80% bonus on base points, etc.) we also received a Hilton Gold Status upgrade to an executive room, access to the Executive Lounge and a complimentary late check out – plus a bonus glass of prosecco and Hilton chocolates on arrival. If you don’t already hold Gold or Diamond status, then this is exactly the kind of stay where gaining it through holding cards like the Hilton Honors Debit Card or Amex Platinum Credit Card really pays off. The cash difference between the Standard Twin room without breakfast, and an Executive Twin with breakfast, would have been as much as £90.

Our Twin room cost 70,000 Hilton Honors points per night. The equivalent cash rate was £325 (which equates to a decent value of 0.46p/Hilton point vs a typical value of about 0.33p). Our stay was during the London Marathon weekend where prices are typically higher, a quick check of other dates indicates rooms are generally £250/night upwards.

Hilton Canary Wharf – The Hotel

The Hilton London Canary Wharf is a modern 4-star business hotel located in London’s primary financial district, featuring 282 contemporary rooms and suites. The property includes a dedicated Executive Lounge for qualifying guests, a 24-hour fitness center equipped with a sauna and steam room, and over 15,000 square feet of versatile meeting and event space. Guests can dine at the TwoRuba restaurant, which serves modern British cuisine. Its location is particularly convenient for travelers, situated just a few minutes’ walk from the South Quay DLR station and the Canary Wharf Underground and Elizabeth Line stations, providing rapid access to the City and Heathrow Airport.

Check In and Location

Given my note above about status benefits, check in was unsurprisingly pretty positive. We arrived at around 2 p.m., we were greeted at the entrance and directed to an empty check in desk. Check in was very efficient and I was informed of our upgrade and lounge access, before being offered a glass of prosecco which I took up to the room – which was already ready for us. Shortly afterwards I also received a text from the front desk welcoming me and inviting me to reply if I had any other needs.

The hotel is located less than 5 minutes walk from the tube station – Google Maps gave me a slightly longer route, but note that you can walk directly through the shopping/restaurant centre pictured below, across the South Quay Footbridge and then turn immediately right down the side of the hotel. This made it a very simple option for the O2 Arena, we simply did one tube stop (North Greenwich to Canary Wharf) and then a short walk.

Walking from the tube, the hotel entrance is well presented, but slightly let down by the neighbouring building’s messy bin storage area which you need to walk through.

Executive Rooms at Hilton Canary Wharf

Our room was an Executive Twin on the 13th floor (floors 13 and 14 are all Executive rooms). At check in we were advised that these were larger than standard rooms (according to the hotel details this difference is 6m2). The room included both a bathtub and shower, and a desk and small seating area. Being on the 13th floor we had a good view across the Docklands Light Railway line, the river and across neighbouring business buildings.

The room was clean, well maintained and perfectly comfortable. It was also very quiet, with minimal internal or external noise.

The Executive Lounge at Hilton Canary Wharf

We made two visits to the lounge, although the timings of our O2 Arena visit meant that neither were during happy hour or food service. The Lounge is a large comfortable space, separated into several seating zones, with self service food and drink available at one end. During our visits soft drinks, tea and coffee, biscuits, fruit and nibbles were available. On our first visit we sat on some high stalls with great views across the river. On both visits the lounge was very quiet – probably due to our timings. Visiting during family hour (4-6 p.m.) or happy hour (6-8 p.m.) is likely to enhance value further, with increased food and drink offerings.

Breakfast at TwoRuba: What to Expect

Breakfast was served in the TwoRuba restaurant. We visited at about 8.30 a.m. on a Saturday and the restaurant was fairly quiet. Tea and coffee is served at the table and there are two main buffet areas, one with continental breakfast offerings and another with hot food. There is also a kids area with pancakes and sweet treats. The breakfast buffet was very good, all items were good quality and replenished efficiently, there was also a good range of options. A small number of additional options were available to order from the menu and the hot items included an omelette station.

Final Verdict: Is Hilton Canary Wharf Worth Your Points?

Overall, the Hilton London Canary Wharf stands out as a polished and reliable choice for both business and leisure stays. While our schedule meant missing the evening “happy hour,” the Executive Lounge provided a peaceful, high-quality retreat with fantastic river views that make it worth the upgrade. The breakfast at TwoRuba was a highlight, successfully balancing a sophisticated atmosphere with family-friendly touches like the dedicated pancake station. It also does seem Hilton Gold upgrades are relatively likely at Hilton Canary Wharf – although I’m obviously basing this on a small sample.

If you are looking for a hotel that offers spacious rooms, efficient service, and easy access to the Elizabeth Line and O2 Arena, this property is a great contender. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee in the quiet of the morning or enjoying the skyline from a high stool in the lounge, it’s the small details and the sense of space that make this Hilton a standout in the Docklands.
