How do I find my referral link?

On the App:

If you are looking to refer a friend via the American Express App, then follow these steps (as shown in screenshots below):

1. Log into the App
2. Select the ‘Account Tab at the bottom
3. Scroll to the bottom and select ‘Send Invite’ under ‘Invite a Friend’
4. Select ‘Invite by Link’ at the bottom and share the link via message or email with your friend
   • Note – if you have more than one Amex card, you can scroll between cards to select which one you send the invite from (your friend does not need to apply for the same card)
5. Your friend will then need to apply via that link

On a Computer:

If you are looking to refer a friend via a desktop or laptop computer, then follow these steps (as shown in the screenshots below):

1. Log into AmericanExpress.com
2. Click the ‘Menu’ button in the top right
3. Click ‘Invite Friends. Get Rewarded’ under the Rewards Menu
4. Copy your link and share via email or message with your friend
   • Note – if you have more than one Amex card, you can select in the top right which one you send the invite from (your friend does not need to apply for the same card)

How much do I get for referring a friend to American Express?

The table below shows the referrer bonus for each American Express card, ranging from 4,000 Avios with the free BA card to 18,000 Amex points with the Platinum card. Note that there are often offers which increase these bonuses, so it’s always worth double checking your account. The maximum referral bonus you can receive per is card is 90,000 points each calendar year (these rest on 1st January).

How long do American Express referral bonuses take?

In my experience, for the referrer, American Express bonuses post relatively quickly – sometimes as soon as 24 hours, but almost always within a couple of days. For the person you refer, the bonus will not post until they have met the spend requirements. Note that whilst welcome bonus offers typically only apply to new cardmembers who don’t have an existing card, and haven’t had one in the last 24 months, the referrer will get a bonus for anyone they refer (regardless of whether they hold other cards). This means it’s worth referring someone, even if they will not be eligible for the bonus.
